ADHD                                                                                                                                                                                             ADHD: Stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.
ADHD: Is a biological brain disorder caused by an imbalance of brain chemicals, these are neurotransmitters & they are called

Taz

NORADRENALINE & DOBUTAMINE: An imbalance of either or both of these chemicals results in the child having difficulty in:.......* CONTROLLING IMPULSIVE BEHAVIOUR *-They take risks, act first & think later, have many accidents or near misses & don't seem to learn from their mistakes.

DIFFICULTY IN SELF MONITORING BEHAVIOUR: If you ask them to explain why they did something, they often respond with, "I don't know" or "I just had to" They feel compelled to do things & often become over excited & don't know when to stop.But ask them what a rule is when they are calm & they can tell you the rule in detail.T he application of these rules is the big problem for anyone suffering with ADHD.

PROBLEMS WITH ATTENTION: -Mainly problems with short term memory recall & learning.

HYPERACTIVITY: -The cartoon character 'TAZ' The Tazmanian devil shows a very good example of hyperactivity. If you have seen this cartoon you will know what I mean.

Hyperactive kids have the below mentioned difficulties;
CAN’T SIT STILL: Are always on the go, wriggle, squirm, fidget, tap feet or drum fingers, fiddle with things. These children can be like whirlwinds, causing unintentional havoc wherever they go. They appear to have an endless supply of energy, they never walk but run everywhere.

LACK OF CONCENTRATION: Their eyes wander when they are not interested in something. This is because they don't seem to be able to filter out stimuli & take everything in that is going on around them. They see & hear everything in one big mix This must be like being in a room & listening to about six conversations at once & trying to pick out the one conversation directed at you & while you are trying to do this you are bombarded with visual stimuli- the colours, faces, furniture, games etc.. in the room.

ADD: Some children have Attention Deficit without the hyperactivity , this is ADD.They often seem to be sitting in a dream world or are gazing out the classroom window at school. Sadly these children do not always get diagnosed or are diagnosed very late as they are not outwardly hyperactive & 'in your face' like the ADHD kids are.

EASILY DISTRACTED: They flit from one thing to another, they become bored easily & end up with every toy out of the toy box within minutes & then they are off to the next thing that has caught their eye.
